I thought I saw a man brought to life
Am
He was warm
B♭7
He came around like he was dignified
B♭sus2
He showed me what it was to cry
2
F
Well you couldn't be that man I adored
Am
You don't seem to know
B♭7
Seem to care what your heart is for
B♭sus2
But I don't know him anymore
3
Dm
There's nothing where he used to lie
C
My conversation has run dry
Am
That's what's going on
C
Nothing's fine I'm torn
4
FCDm
I'm all out of faith, this is how I feel
B♭F
I'm cold and I am shamed lying naked on the floor
CDm
Illusion never changed into something real
I'm wide awake
B♭
And I can see the perfect sky is torn
5
FCDm  B♭
You're a little late, I'm already torn
6
F
So I guess the fortune teller's right
Am
I should have seen just what was there
B♭7
And not some holy light
B♭sus2
But you crawl beneath my veins and now
7
Dm
I don't care, I had no luck
C
I don't miss it all that much
Am
There's just so many things
C
That I can touch, I'm torn

"Torn" was originally written in 1993 by Scott Cutler, Anne Preven, and Phil Thornalley. It was first recorded that year by Danish singer Lis Sørensen as "Brændt" (Burned) after it was translated by Elisabeth Gjerluff Nielsen. The song has been covered by several artists including Ednaswap and Trine Rein.

In 1997, Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia covered the song for her debut studio album "Left of the Middle" which became a worldwide hit. The music video directed by Alison Maclean, features British actor Jeremy Sheffield.
